Nourish Pierce County’s mission is to provide nutritious food and support services to people in need with compassion, dignity, and respect. Nourish was incorporated in 1982 and currently has six food bank locations and award-winning mobile food banks that serve fifteen additional sites. Nourish serves tens of thousands of individuals each year, with the assistance of hundreds of volunteers. Our goal is to provide each person or family with enough food to make three nutritious meals a day for three days. All Nourish food banks operate on a self-serve model, allowing clients to select the foods that best meet their family’s needs. Position Title: Annual Giving and Events Manager
Reports to: Director of Development
Direct Reports: Development Administrative Assistant
Status: Full Time – Exempt
Location: 100% Office-based.  NOT remote

Salary: $69350 to $75000 annual compensation

Purpose: The successful candidate will be a dynamic, self-starting, friendly individual who is detail oriented and has a proven track record of managing annual giving programs and individual donor relationships.  This position works to acquire, retain and upgrade prospects and donors of $4,999 and less. The Annual Giving and Events Manager, under the supervision of the Director of Development, is responsible for planning, overseeing, and implementing efforts to grow Nourish Pierce County annual giving by meeting or exceeding revenue goals. This includes identifying and cultivating new entry-level and mid-level individual donors, as well as providing stewardship for existing donors.   The successful candidate will have experience creating successful appeals, meeting with prospects and donors one-on-one, planning and implementing events, and strong public relations, marketing and communication skills.  This position supports the organization’s institutional fundraising program through leading and managing the annual giving effort, which includes researching prospects, cultivating and soliciting donors, providing stewardship, developing proposals and reports, drafting communications, keeping accurate records, supervising the development administrative assistant and meeting deadlines.This position is responsible for the annual luncheon and other small donor events, as well as printed and electronic donor appeals.

The individual in this position will work collaboratively with development team members and others throughout the organization to accomplish individual, team, and organization goals. This position also supervises the development assistant, office volunteers, and interns.

Essential Duties

Essential Duty 1 - Annual Giving:

  • Plan and manage and implement all facets of annual electronic and print appeals, including segmentation of current donors, acquisition of new donors, and 
  • Manage an annual calendar of annual giving appeals, events and related activities
  • Source, write, and edit all print and electronic appeals, working with a graphic designer and other professionals as needed
  • Initiate and participate in cultivation and solicitation meetings with donor prospects identified in conjunction with the Director of Development
  • Manage all third party and peer-to-peer fundraising activities and pages
  • Assist with other fundraising projects as requested
Essential Duty 2 - Events:
  • Responsible for achieving event revenue and attendance goals
  • Plan, manage and implement annual fundraising and “friend-raising” events and campaigns under the supervision of the Director of Development.  These include – but are not limited to the annual luncheon, food bank tour events, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Development and other team members to develop all event materials for print and online publication, including save the date notices, invitations, sponsorship materials, and more
  • Solicit sponsorships.
  • Responsible for managing the process of acquiring table captains, filling seats, etc.
  • Responsible for coordinating logistics with venues and ensuring that the day of event activities run smoothly

Essential Duty 3 - Donor Stewardship and Customer Service:

  • Assure donors and their gifts are acknowledged in a warm, personalized, timely and accurate fashion
  • Update acknowledgment letters regularly
  • Make appointments with prospects, arrange for on-site tours for supporters
  • Handle customer/donor service issues with diplomacy. When issues occur, provide a response to the customer within the next business-day
  • Talk with donors on an annual basis to gather feedback
  • Ensure donor reports are complete and submitted on time

Essential Duty 4 - Communications:

  • Work with Development Director on the communication, public relations, marketing and media plan and timeline
  • Manage annual communications calendar and assure that social media posts, press releases, and newsletters and other timed communication is delivered in a timely fashion
  • Seek out client stories and advocacy issues to prepare messaging for electronic media, printed publications and at events
  • Coordinate the design, printing and distribution of development-related marketing and communication materials—including print & social media, press releases, newsletters, brochures, and on-line giving
  • Manage applications for external recognition and awards

Essential Duty 5 - Record Keeping, Supervision, and Reporting:

  • Accountable for the integrity of the donor database, including the proper recording and reconciliation of gifts, that totals are balanced with accounting regularly, and gifts are recognized expeditiously
  • Responsible for supervision and training of the Development Assistant, who’s primary responsibility is accomplishing the items above, in addition to other administrative duties outlined in that position description
  • Use donor database to track donations, relationship moves management, appeals, and prepare monthly analytic reports
  • Ensure all streams of contributed income are recorded accurately and consistently in the donor database
  • Ensure effective management, review and analysis of donor statistics and information
  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of donor database
  • Ensure that the reconciliation process between Development and Accounting occurs in a timely fashion according to schedule
  • Manage and implement smarter methods of using donor CRM
  • Meet all data entry, acknowledgement, and report deadlines

Essential Duty 6: Driving - Nourish Pierce County has 21 service sites across the county.  Driving is required to meet with prospects and donors, to provide tours at food bank sites, and to participate in day to day activities and attend meetings at multiple locations as needed.  Many key Nourish Pierce County sites are not served by public transportation.

Also:

  • Maintain a respectful, friendly, and cooperative environment where everyone is treated with compassion, dignity and respect.
  • Supervise office volunteers and interns
  • Communicate budget items to Development Director and Deputy Director as needed
  • Participate in management coverage for the agency
  • Participate in workshops, conferences, and community meetings related to food banks and fund development as directed
  • Attend and participate in all-staff and department meetings

Competencies:

  • Minimum 3 years non-profit fundraising with demonstrated expertise in strategic thinking and development program planning, especially focused on annual giving and events
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, but also work well as part of a team; handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments
  • Thorough understanding of all components of annual giving and events strategies, including planning, project management and timelines
  • Demonstrated expertise with donor database systems, including tracking data and creating reports
  • A track-record of successful gift solicitations and achieving revenue goals, both through written solicitations and in-person solicitations
  • A track-record of developing and cultivating donors and relationships with multiple community stakeholders
  • Demonstrated expertise in effective web-based activities including social marketing and e‑philanthropy
  • Excellent research, organization, and communications skills with a demonstrated ability to write and speak clearly and persuasively
  • Experience and comfort working with senior level executives and board of directors.
  • Positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate and steward new donors
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong partnership building and event planning skills
  • Demonstrated computer and written literacy required, especially use of websites, social media platforms, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), online mail/newsletter applications, Canva, etc.
  • Excellent people skills with co-workers, volunteers, community members, and stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate effectively in speech and in writing with a broad and diverse audience

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position. We also offer a generous benefits package including employer-paid medical, dental and vision insurance; a SIMPLE IRA plan and organizational match of up to 3% of annual salary; paid vacation and sick leave and paid holidays.
