About Nourish:

Nourish Pierce County provides food and emergency service referrals to people in need.  Our mission is to provide nutritious food and support services to people in need with compassion, dignity and respect.  With six brick and mortar food bank locations and - award-winning mobile food banks that visit fourteen additional sites, Nourish served more than 52,000 individuals in 2022.  With the assistance of more than 500 volunteers, our goal is to provide each person or family with enough food to make three nutritious meals a day for three days. All Nourish food banks operate on a self-serve model, allowing clients to select the foods that best meet their family’s needs.  Clients are asked to limit their visits to once a week, but no one in need is turned away.  For more information on Nourish Pierce County please visit:

Position Title: Development Administrative Assistant
(Part-time; 20 hrs. per week. Monday – Friday flexible; occasional evening and weekend.) 


Reports to:  Director of Development

Status: Part-time; 20 hours per week Monday-Friday; occasional evening. and weekends as needed.

Purpose: The Administrative Assistant is an key staff member. Their primary purpose is to help Nourish’s administrative office operate professionally and efficiently. By helping Nourish’s central office operate effectively, they support Nourish’s mission of providing food and support services to people in need with compassion, dignity and respect.

The Administrative Assistant performs essential office management and clerical duties. They manage the donor database, enter gift and donor records, and organize donor letters. They oversee the front desk, answer phones, organize files, and order and manage office supplies.

A successful candidate for this position must have excellent computer, organization and problem-solving skills, great customer service skills and the ability to work independently and adhere to designated timelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Administrative (50%):

  • Oversee Nourish’s front desk and administrative needs;
  • Answer phones in a friendly and professional manner; route calls, take and distribute messages;
  • Provide community members with accurate information regarding food bank procedures, locations and hours of operation;
  • Manage Nourish’s phone system, adjusting messages as appropriate;
  • Refer callers to other organizations as appropriate;
  • Greet office visitors in a friendly, professional manner;
  • Coordinate office supply orders and monitor office supply budget;
  • Assist in editing correspondence, newsletters and other documents;
  • Coordinate administrative office volunteers;
  • Process mail;
  • Maintain office equipment including VOIP phone system;
  • Perform other clerical tasks as assigned

Development Program Support (40%) *

  • Input and update donor information into donor software program, Bloomerang;
  • Enter gift data and process donor acknowledgment letters;
  • Assist with the development or implementation of Nourish fundraising events and outreach efforts that are critical to the organization’s success such as the annual auction and luncheon;
  • Assist with making phone calls to donors, prospects, event invitees, and others as requested;
  • Assist with running development reports to generate lists for mailings and other requested needs.
  • Support accurate record-keeping by working with donor database and coordinating with Nourish’s Accounting Director.

Professional Development (5%) *

  • Participate in appropriate workshops, conferences, and community meetings related to food banks and administration, and maintain current required certifications;
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings

Other Duties (5%) *

  • Assists Nourish staff, donors, volunteers and clients with other duties as requested
  • Treats all staff, volunteers, clients and the public with compassion, dignity and respect

Competencies: *

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Excellent public service skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Ability to use Internet browser
  • Initiative and Problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Experience with fundraising database systems (e.g. Bloomerang, Raiser’s Edge)
  • Update and maintain standard operating procedures for all day-to-day duties

Physical Requirements: *

  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to sit for four or five hours
  • Must be able to communicate detailed information clearly in person, in writing and using a phone

Required Education, Skills and Experience *

  • one year or more professional experience working with non-profits preferred
  • one year or more professional fundraising experience
  • experience, confirmed by professional references, of excellent organizational and communication skills
  • experience, confirmed by professional references of ability to manage detailed tasks in a deadline driven environment

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience *

  • 5 years or more experience providing administrative support in a professional setting
  • Completion of high school or GED (AA or higher preferred)
  • Some QuickBooks familiarity is helpful

Compensation and Benefits

This is a part time, non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $21/hour. In addition to 10 paid holidays per year, this position accrues paid vacation and sick leave.
